KICTANet is inviting grassroots Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) across Kenya to apply for the upcoming Policy Hackathon on Promoting Safe and Inclusive Digital Spaces, part of the KenSafeSpace Project.

This initiative aims to amplify the voice, capacity, and influence of Kenyan human rights organizations in shaping a democratic, secure, and inclusive digital environment.

What’s the Hackathon About?

This is the second in a two-part series, bringing together policy advocates, digital rights defenders, and civic tech innovators from Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Mombasa to co-create actionable policy solutions under three key themes:

  • Combating Online Harassment & Promoting Digital Safety
  • Fostering Safe & Inclusive Civic Digital Spaces
  • Countering Electoral Misinformation & Disinformation

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Represent a registered non-profit organization in Kenya (e.g. CBO, CSO, academic institution, or association)
  • Have experience or interest in digital rights, online safety, data protection, or content moderation
  • Present a feasible and impactful policy idea relevant to Kenyan society
  • Be available to fully participate in all hackathon sessions
  • Be open to collaboration in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams

Note: Selection will consider geographical diversity, gender balance, and inclusion of minority groups.

Top 3 teams will receive funding to implement their policy solutions:

Winner: EUR 4,000
1st Runner-up: EUR 3,000
