By Aaron Muuo, KeSIG Alumni, 2025
“KeSIG provided a structured understanding of how digital policies are formed. It has given me the confidence to take part in discussions on emerging technologies and has opened doors to a network of professionals who are shaping Kenya’s digital landscape.”
Participating in KeSIG has been a turning point in my professional journey. The program not only deepened my knowledge of digital governance but also sharpened my ability to engage meaningfully in conversations around emerging technologies. I now approach projects with a governance‑first and ethical mindset, ensuring that solutions are not just functional but responsible and aligned with regional standards.
The most valuable skill I gained was understanding the ethical and regulatory challenges of Artificial Intelligence. This knowledge has become central to my current role, where I apply it to guide technology projects toward inclusivity and accountability.
As Kenya’s digital economy expands, I believe internet governance knowledge is indispensable. Issues such as data privacy, AI ethics, and digital rights are no longer niche concerns they are at the heart of sustainable growth. Professionals equipped with governance expertise can safeguard community interests while contributing to a safe, inclusive internet.
My advice to future KeSIG participants is simple: come with an open mind and a specific interest, whether in AI, cybersecurity, or another area of digital policy. Don’t just study the material actively engage with peers and attend tech policy events. The network you build is just as important as the curriculum.
On relevance, I would rate KeSIG a solid 5 out of 5. Since completing the program, I have actively engaged with academic and research institutions as well as private sector forums, expanding my professional reach and influence.
