By Neema Mujesia,

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, observed annually from 25 November to 10 December, is a global campaign calling for the protection of the rights, safety, and dignity of women, girls and marginalized communities everywhere.

As we commemorate this period, KICTANet reaffirms its commitment to promoting safe, inclusive, and rights-respecting digital spaces, particularly as Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) continues to impact women and girls across East Africa.

Through the KICTANet Gender Programme, we work to:

  • Strengthen digital resilience;
  • Enhance digital literacy and online safety skills;
  • Facilitate community dialogues on digital rights; and
  • Support tools such as the OGBV Online Map Tracker and Swahili WhatsApp Tipline to improve reporting and documentation of online abuse.

Our research and policy advocacy continue to advance legal and institutional reforms that ensure survivors have access to justice, protection, and support.

Aligned with this year’s global theme, “Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls,” we recognize that preventing TFGBV requires sustained investment, collaboration, and collective action.

Over these 16 days and beyond we encourage everyone to speak up, report online abuse, support survivors, and advocate for safer digital spaces for women and girls.
